Its not just another day. Its the one day that is given to you today. It is given to you--it is a gift. Its the only gift that you have right now. And the only appropriate response, is gratefulness. If you do nothing else but to cultivate that response, to the great gift that this unique day is, if you learn to respond as if it were the first day in your life and the very last day--then you will have spent this day very well.
Think that just about sums it up.
Last night I went to a photo exhibit that my friend Angela helped start. It's called 100cameras, and their mission is pretty simple- to raise awareness and empower sustainable growth in poverty stricken areas by teaching children photography, encouraging them to shoot their everyday lives, and then donating 100% of the proceeds from photos that sell (in major cities like New York) back to their partner organization on the ground, working to provide adequate healthcare and education.
It's quite brilliant, right?! I know, I said the same thing.
At Holstee, we constantly talk about the overarching affect of what we do and how we do it, and firmly believe life is about the people you meet and the things you create with them. What 100cameras is doing to inspire creativity and a sense of worth with youth in impoverished areas is most admirable as it's our ability to imagine and create that allows for positive change, growth and progress.
I mean, what more could you ask for?
Hats off to 100cameras. Please spread the word.
