Two times in my life, I had plans shaping up to visit India and both times they unfortunately fell thru the cracks. Countless friends have visited and shared stories and returned with gifts, which I am very grateful for, but nothing can replace the first-hand-face-to-face encounters with the smells, sights and tremendous sense of spirit.
I just learned about the electrifying festival of Holi, celebrated every spring as a way to say goodbye to winter and rejuvinate the masses with vibrant color, prayer and camaraderie, and I'm ready to book my flight for next spring.
As you see, Hindus have a great sense of humor and joy and vitality as they splatter and drench each other in dyes and colored water that reflect the fierce pulse of Indian culture and life. I mean, can you imagine the sense of play and freedom they must feel as they recklessly soak one another with exhausting smiles? It's exhiliarting to me and I'm jealous I missed out this year.
Below are some of my favorite pics.
At Holstee, we like to say, "Travel often; getting lost will help you find yourself."
