There are some products that mean so much more when you know how they were made. Take the
Recycled Bangles designed by Stephanie Huffaker founder of, Brooklyn based,
Garbage of Eden. Each bangle is made using plastic bags, meticulously wrapped around a thin brass circle. Since each bracelet is made from a particular plastic bag each carries a unique story.
For example the Blue bangles are all made from New York Times newspaper bags, the Orange and Yellow bangles are made from a two separate newspapers her mom receives in her hometown in Connecticut. The the beautiful Dark Green bangles are made from Barnes Nobles plastic bags. As cities are slowly realizing the impact of plastic bags floating around our planet and landfills it is amazing to see them upcycled into such a beautiful form.
I picked up three bracelets for myself and have already give one to a friend. They look and feel great, and are a constant conversation starter. I was worried about quality because each bangle is handmade, but after a few weeks of wearing it - im convinced these bangles are indestructible!
We are proud to support a local Brooklyn designer, her amazing creativity, and beautiful recycled products!
